“The Dawning Light” (2015), commissioned and premiered by Lorelei Ensemble, uses as its text traditional songs and poems of the Inuit-Yupik (Eskimo) in anonymous English translations. Two outer vocalise (wordless) movements frame the five texted movements. The movements may also be performed individually or in any subset combinations. Originally composed for eight women’s voices, the music may also be performed by larger (choral) forces.
