New Roberto Sierra Piano Trios… CD Features the Spanish Chamber Ensemble Trio Arbós

Naxos Releases 2011 Roberto Sierra CD: Piano Trios Nos. 1-3 / Fanfarria, aria y movimiento perpetuo

Roberto Sierra CDPiano Trios Nos. 1-3 / Fanfarria, aria y movimiento perpetuo is the latest CD from composer Roberto Sierra to be released by Naxos. Recorded by the Spanish chamber ensemble Trio Arbós, this 2011 release showcases not only Latin and jazz influences, but also Romantic and modern developments as well.

“The three piano trios in this recording span seventeen years (1991-2008) of my creative life,” says Roberto Sierra. “Each reflects a different creative impulse and the ideas that were in my mind at the time I wrote them. There are nevertheless common threads that link these works: a constant preoccupation with the intersection of a modern musical language and the vernacular that comes out of my ethnic background, and also timbral explorations often linked to instrumental virtuosity. Also included in the CD is Fanfarria aria y movimiento perpetuo for piano and violin.”

Performing the works on the CD are the Trio Arbós. Formed in 1996 by violinist Miguel Borrego, cellist José Miguel Gómez, and pianist Juan Carlos, the Trio Arbós have established themselves as one of Spain’s leading chamber ensembles, and have appeared frequently in major concert halls and festivals in more than 30 countries (Vienna Konzerthaus, Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, Helsinki Sibelius Accademy, Buenos Aires Teatro Colón, Madrid Auditorio Nacional, Kuhmo Festival, Festival Time of Music of Viitasaari, Nuova Consonanza of Rome, Romaeuropa, Wittener Tage für Neue Musik, etc.).

Naxos also plans to release a future Sierra CD featuring his orchestral works with the Nashville Symphony, as conducted by Gian Carlo Guerrero.
