Celebrating Jerome Moross

Jerome Moross Centennial logoFrom September 30, 2013 – January 10, 2014, the Kempner Gallery at Columbia University’s Rare Book and Manuscript Library (New York) is presenting “Celebrating Composers” – an exhibition of 15 prominent 20th-century composers. American film, ballet, theater and concert music composer Jerome Moross is prominently featured in the exhibition in celebration of the composer’s centennial.

Several items will be on display from the Library’s Moross scholarly archives. The exhibition includes manuscripts, scores, correspondence, letters, interviews, oral histories, scripts, stage designs, photographs, and audio recordings. On October 15, the composer’s daughter – Susan Moross Tarjan – will participate in an informal chat celebrating her father’s music which will be moderated by WQXR radio host David Garland. For more event details, visit the Rare Book and Manuscript Library.

Other Moross activities include WFMT’s program “Jerome Moross: The Big Country and Beyond.” The two-hour show was produced by British documentarian Jon Tolansky, and is narrated by pianist and American music-champion Michael Feinstein. The program launched on August 1 – the composer’s actual birth date – and continues to be broadcast this fall in the US and internationally.
