On February 24 and 25, the Trío Arbós joins the RTVE Orchestra (Orqu
esta Sinfonica de Radio y Televisión Española) in Madrid for the world premiere of Roberto Sierra’s Triple Concierto for Violin, Violoncello, Piano & Orquesta. Charles Kalmar leads both performances.
Sierra shares some thoughts about his new three-movement work. “This concerto is the result of my friendship and close relationship with the members of Trio Arbós, one of the best trios of our time. The work was commissioned by them with funding by the BVVA Foundation in Spain. For this work, in each one of its three movements, I use the Caribbean musical archetypes of the ‘montuno’ from salsa music, the Latin ‘bolero’ and the Dominican ‘merengue.’”
More Sierra news: on March 27, the Peabody Modern Orchestra performs the composer’s Sinfonía No.1, conducted by Harlan D. Parker.
