Michael Abels’ celebrated Global Warming will be performed in January by the Richmond Symphony Youth Orchestra. In February, the St. Louis Symphony features Dance for Martin’s Dream and Outburst as part of its Black History Month Celebrations.
Roberto Sierra has another world premiere in February as Mark Scatterday leads the Eastman Wind Ensemble in the first performance of Mambo Metàlico, the composer’s newest work for wind ensemble.
This January, the Atlanta Chamber Players perform Leanna Primiani’s new Holy Order: Shaker Dances at the Rapido! Composition Competition concert finals.
DBR starts off 2013 as a plenary speaker at the annual APAP Conference in New York City, followed by the Mimesis Ensemble’s January performance of Five Chairs and One Table at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall. On January 31st, the South Beach Chamber Ensemble plays The Kompa Variations for Double String Quartet, joined by the Miami Beach Senior High String Quartet. In February, the Harlem Chamber Players play I Never Wanted My First Communion. DBR also goes on tour when he appears in concert at the Miami Dade Cultural Arts Center followed by an evening at Emory University (Atlanta, GA) joined by members of the Sphinx Orchestra and the Harlem Chamber Players.
Susan Kander’s opera She Never Lost a Passenger – based on the formidable and heroic efforts of American Underground Railroad leader Harriet Tubman – will be performed in February at the Amarillo Opera.
Pianist Elizabeth Moak continues her year-long tour of Judith Lang Zaimont’s works with a concert featuring Jupiter’s Moons at the University of Southern Mississippi at Hattiesburg.
Hit On All Sixes, Edward Knight’s popular band work, will be performed by the Oklahoma City University Wind Philharmonic at the Oklahoma Music Educators Association OMEA Conference in January.
On Valentine’s Day weekend, Ohio University honors Nancy Galbraith with its School of Music Alumni Award, and a composer portrait concert of wind music featuring her new band piece Febris Ver.
Dan Locklair’s Hues will be performed by the Davidson College Symphony (NC) in February, and in the spring, the Eppes String Quartet will premiere his Two Transcendental Odes in Tallahassee, FL.
