Roberto Sierra

“[Roberto Sierra’s] music is extremely appealing,” shared Music from Angel Fire festival artistic director Ida Kavafian on the eve of the festival’s August 24, 2011 premiere of Sierra’s Fuego de ángel. Commissioned by the festival, and scored for piano and strings, the 17-minute chamber work was performed by the Opus One ensemble. Kavafian noted that Sierra’s Puerto Rican heritage and classical training in piano and composition are “a great blend of those two parts of his life, and he’s able to put music together that’s entirely his own…” Opus One reprises Fuego de ángel on October 24

Among several fall performances, Sierra has two “firsts”: Fandangos gets its Hong Kong premiere when Andreas Delfs conducts the Hong Kong Philharmonic on October 7th and 8th, and Reflections on a Souvenir receives an Italian premiere on pianist Stefania Neonato’s October 28th program at the University of Trento. Sierra’s next world premiere occurs in November when The Arcos Trio performs of his NEA-commissioned Trio No. 4 at Lawrence University in Appleton, WI.
