FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Subito Music Corporation Acquires Exclusive Rights to The Columbia University Music Press Series
July 15, 2007, Verona, New Jersey Subito Music Corporation has acquired exclusive distribution and administrative rights to The Columbia University Music Press Series. Subito will retain the Columbia University Music Press (BMI) and King’s Crown Music Press (ASCAP) names and imprints for the catalog, which currently consists of thirty two works for solo instrument, solo voice, and chamber ensemble by various composers including Henry Cowell, David Diamond, Ross Lee Finney, Miriam Gideon, Douglas Moore, Harvey Sollberger, and others.
The Columbia University Music Press Series features the music of composers active in the last half of the twentieth century in a well edited and beautifully engraved or manuscript format, suitable for performances and for study. The Series was conceived as a way to bring these new works to a wider audience than was possible via personal contact with this composer or small, hard-to-find specialty outlets.
Subito President Stephen Culbertson states: “We are delighted to make The Columbia University Music Press Series available to performers and students of contemporary music. This select catalog includes significant works by America’s finest composers.”
Pianist Gilbert Kalish, who currently oversees the catalog, comments, “Jack Beeson has been the moving force behind The Columbia University Music Press since he and Virgil Thomson founded it fifty years ago. We are thrilled that it will continue to be a valuable outlet for these notable American composers and that their works will continue to be available to interested performers. In addition, we intend to keep the catalog active adding a limited number of works by new composers in the future.”
